Rita ‘Rita

National Margarita Day is Monday, February 22, and this year it just happens to fall on the birthday of the Bloomery’s very own Rita! Oh, girl! You know we’ve got a super special SweetShine drink just for you.

Did y’all know Rita has an alter-ego?

img_1943-200x300-1

That’s right! She’s often spotted in character as Raspberry Lemon! So, of course we are featuring her favorite flavor in her signature cocktail.

Here’s what you’ll need:

untitled-300x200-1-2

2 oz Raspberry Lemon SweetShine

1 1/2 oz fresh grapefruit juice

1 1/2 oz fresh lime juice

1 oz tequila

For optional grapefruit salt blend:

1 Tbsp grapefruit zest

1/4 c. kosher salt

1/4 c. raw sugar

untitled-26-300x200-1

You’ll need to prepare your grapefruit salt blend ahead of time. It will keep in an air-tight jar for about 2 months.

untitled-6-300x200-1-2

Preheat your oven to 225. Then simply combine 1/4 c. kosher salt, 1/4 c. raw sugar, and 1 Tbsp grapefruit zest. Mix until well blended, making sure not to leave any clumps of zest.

untitled-9-300x200-1

Spread evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 30-45 minutes, or until grapefruit zest is completely dry and crumbles to the touch. Let the blend cool then gently break up clumps with a spatula. Be careful not to over-bake! Your bake time will depend on how finely you’ve zested your grapefruit.

Now to build the Rita ‘Rita!

untitled-10-300x200-1

Freshly squeeze 1 1/2 oz grapefruit juice.

untitled-141-300x200-1

Add 1 1/2 oz lime juice, also freshly squeezed.

untitled-161-300x200-1-2

Sweeten it up with 2 oz Raspberry Lemon SweetShine.

untitled-171-300x200-1

Add 1 oz tequila and ice. Cover and shake.

untitled-181-300x200-1

Pour a bit of your grapefruit salt blend onto a cutting board or plate.

untitled-19-300x200-1-2

Rub the rim of your glass with a fresh, juicy lime wedge.

untitled-201-300x200-1

Swirl the lime-coated rim in grapefruit salt blend.

untitled-231-300x200-1

Fill your prepared glass with crushed ice and strain your cocktail into the glass.

untitled-21-300x200-1-2

Carefully core the strawberry.

untitled-22-300x200-1-2

Now you have a strawberry shot glass.

untitled-25-300x200-1-3

Dip the bottom into melted chocolate.

(Microwave chocolate 30 seconds. Stir. Microwave 30 seconds more. Stir again. Repeat in 10 second intervals if necessary until chocolate is melted).

untitled-29-300x200-1-2

Sit the chocolate coated strawberries chocolate-side-down on wax paper.

untitled-31-300x200-1-4

Hot Ass Lemon Drop II

Many of you have enjoyed, or at least heard of, our famous Hot Ass Lemon Drop, but you can’t always find Hellfire bitters. Don’t fret. Here’s a slightly different approach to get the same spicy results.

1 oz Limoncello SweetShine

1 oz vodka

1 oz lemonade

pinch cayenne pepper

untitled-19-300x200-1-3

First, as with any martini, you’ll want to chill your glass. Simply fill it with ice water before you start building your drink.

untitled-21-300x200-1

Start with some sort of shaker with ice, and add 1 oz Limoncello SweetShine,

untitled-24-300x200-1-3

1 oz vodka,

untitled-23-300x200-1-3

and 1 oz lemonade.

untitled-26-300x200-1-2

Cereal Killer

This weird beer cocktail is infused with a certain chocolate cereal that appears this time of year. I hear it’s from Transylvania.

Here’s what you’ll need:

img_7570-1-200x300-1

1/2 oz Black Walnut SweetShine

1 oz chocolate vodka

3 oz milk stout

3 oz chocolate cereal with marshmallows, plus 2 oz more for rim

chocolate syrup for rim

img_7580-3-200x300-1

We’ll start by infusing 3 oz milk stout with 3 oz chocolate cereal.

img_7591-4-200x300-1

Simply pour cereal in a glass and top with stout. Let it sit for a few minutes. Practice a little patience here. The longer it sits the more chocolaty goodness you’ll enjoy.

img_7595-6-200x300-1

While your cereal infuses fill another shakeable container with a lid with ice and add 1 oz chocolate vodka.

img_7602-7-200x300-1

Then 1/2 oz Black Walnut SweetShine.

img_7608-8-200x300-1

Cover and shake until chilled. Set aside.

img_7610-9-200x300-1

Rim a chilled martini glass with chocolate syrup.

img_7577-2-200x300-1

Crush 2 oz cereal.

img_7612-10-200x300-1

Then gently roll the chocolate rim in crushed cereal.

img_7614-11-200x300-1

Now you’re ready to build your drink.

img_7617-12-200x300-1

Strain vodka and Black Walnut SweetShine mixture into prepared glass.

img_7620-13-200x300-1

Press the cereal to release all of the stout.

Raspberry Lemon

SweetShine Caipirinha

We hear there is an exciting athletic event in South America this month, so we’ve decided to join the fun by reinventing Brazil’s national drink, the Caipirinha!  The Caipirinha, pronounced “kigh-puh-REEN-ya”, is a refreshing drink made with fresh limes, sugar, and Cachaça.

Cachaça, pronounced “kah-SHAH-sah”, is a sugar cane distilled spirit made only in Brazil and dates all the way back to 1516! Its flavor profile lands somewhere between Rum and Tequila – not as sweet as molasses-based Rum and not as much bite as Tequila. Cachaça is the only spirit in the world that is aged in 28 different types of wood. Pretty cool, huh?

So let’s get to this delicious SweetShine Caipirinha. Here’s what you need:

1/2 oz Raspberry Lemon SweetShine

1/2 lime, cut into wedges

1 tsp sugar

2 oz Cachaça

Start by cutting half a lime into wedges.

Add 1 tsp sugar.

Muddle. (Simply press and twist to release juice)

Add ice.

Add 1/2 oz Raspberry Lemon SweetShine.

Top with 2 oz Cachaça.

Ahhhhhhh …

SweetShine Caipirinha with Raspberry Lemon SweetShine.

Cheers!
